The Band program gives four awards annually - three awards to outstanding graduating Seniors, and one to the most outstanding 8th grade student. The awards, and their criteria that Mr. Charest uses to choose the award winners are listed below.
John Philip Sousa Award
Awarded to the Senior who best exemplifies the following qualities and qualifications in the Wind Ensemble Classroom.
-Member of Wind Ensemble for 4 Years
-Takes Private Lessons
-Outstanding classroom performance
-Auditions for All-State Yearly
-Performs at Solo and Ensemble Yearly,
both in solos AND ensembles
-Serves at least one year as section leader
-Participates in musical activities outside
EWG (Band Camps, RIPYO/RIPYWE,
All-State ensembles, church
choir/worship band, etc)
Louis Armstrong Jazz Award:
Awarded to the Senior who best exemplifies the following qualities and qualifications in the Jazz Ensemble Classroom.
-Member of Jazz Ensemble for 4 Years
-Takes Private Lessons
-Outstanding classroom performance
-Auditions for All-State Yearly
-Performs at Solo and Ensemble Yearly,
both in solos AND ensembles
-Serves at least one year as section leader
-Participates in musical activities outside
EWG (Band Camps, RIPYO/RIPYWE,
All-State ensembles, church
choir/worship band, etc)
-Improvises regularly in Jazz Band
EWG Music Department Service Award:
Awarded to the Senior who best exemplifies the following qualities and qualifications in the entire band program.
-Member of Band Program for min. 3 years
-Outstanding classroom performance
-Model citizen
-Helpful with concert preparations and
break down
Director's Award for Band
Awarded to the 8th grader who best
exemplifies the following qualities and
qualifications in the Jr. High Band
Classroom.
-Member of Jr. High Band for 2 Years
-Takes Private Lessons
-Outstanding classroom performance
-Auditions for All-State Yearly
-Performs at Solo and Ensemble at least
-Participates in musical activities outside
EWG (Band Camps, RIPYO/RIPYWE,
All-State ensembles, church
choir/worship band, etc)
